The expansion will see a total investment of over £1m and will create in the region of 60 new jobs.

German Doner Kebab, which is part of the Hero Brands group, is one of the UK and Europe’s fastest-growing restaurant chains with 33 outlets opened during the past two years.

GDK master franchisee for Sweden, Hassan Khan Niazi, revealed that the brand is growing consumer awareness across Sweden, stating that the organisation ranks among the top food brands on social media for followers and engagement during the past six months.

He said, “German Doner Kebab first arrived in Sweden in 2014.

“Our idea of bringing a gourmet kebab that is healthy and nutritionally balanced has been a huge hit with consumers and led to us opening five stores throughout the country.

“We are now embarking on a significant period of expansion with four openings by this summer and further locations set to be finalised in the coming months.

“The new openings gives us key strategic locations to bring our experience to even more consumers, whilst creating significant job opportunities across Sweden.”

He added: “We are also seeking strong franchise partnerships as we respond to consumer demand and forge ahead with an ambitious growth strategy for the region.”

German Doner Kebab currently operates stores in the UK, Sweden, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Oman and Bahrain.

The Swedish plans follow news that the brand is embarking on plans to expand into Saudi Arabia. The Ajlan and Brothers Group has been signed-up as the master franchisee, with a development agreement of 100 stores over the next ten years.

Further growth has been announced in North America. Franchises have been signed in Canada’s Ontario and British Columbia provinces and negotiations are underway to open outlets in New York’s Manhattan and New Jersey in the USA. Texas-based Tanweer Ahmed has also signed a development agreement for an initial 12 GDK outlets in Houston, Dallas and Las Vegas which will be rolled-out over the next two years.
