Metal Supermarkets celebrates franchising milestone with 100th store opening

The milestone comes off the back of a year brimming with exponential growth

The milestone comes off the back of a year brimming with exponential growth.

Metal Supermarkets, the international metal convenience store franchise, will open its 100th location on October 5 with a new store in San Diego, CA.

The brand has 14 total new stores opening in 2020, which is a sign of exponential growth for Metal Supermarkets, as this figure is more than triple the number of openings in 2019. Already looking ahead, the brand is finalizing several units to open in early 2021.

“We are extremely proud to be opening our 100th store. This opening marks a major milestone in the history of our franchise,” said Metal Supermarkets president and CEO, Stephen Schober. “Along with the record number of store openings in 2020, reaching the 100-store mark is a testament to the Metal Supermarkets business system, our dedicated franchisees, and the demand for our products and services.”

The new San Diego location will mark the brand’s 69th store in the U.S., with 24 Metal Supermarkets stores operating in Canada, and seven in the U.K. 90 per cent of these are franchisee-owned, with six corporate locations in the U.K. and four in the U.S.

Deemed an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic, Metal Supermarkets wasn’t required to close any of its locations and some stores increased sales by as much as 15 per cent earlier this year.
