The Mexican casual dining brand will open 60 new locations across South Korea.
In an extensive deal, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has signed a master franchisor agreement with JRW Inc and will expand the brand’s presence with sub-franchisor agreements with its partners.
“This agreement is an incredible opportunity for On The Border to continue the process of expanding our international presence,” said Mike Wood, chief development officer for On The Border.
“We are eager to take this platform to new countries around the world and we’re actively looking for the next market to bring our bold, border-style cuisine.”
In January, JRW was given an exclusive license to retail On The Border products in South-East Asian markets as well as the use of its trademark in the sale of dressing, snacks and meal kits across South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia.
On The Border retail products can currently be found in South Korean grocery stores, big box retailers and premium online food platforms.
“We’ve experienced great success with On The Border, so we’re excited to expand our partnership,” said Suzy Park, CEO of JRW, Inc.
“This is just the first step in expanding across Asia and solidifying On The Border as the premier restaurant for Mexican cuisine in these markets.”
JRW currently operates 12 locations in South Korea but plan to grow that to 28 locations with a corporate franchisor agreement, in addition to the 60 sub-franchised units.
