Must-attend franchise events in the Asia-Pacific region

This ever-growing region is becoming more and more receptive to the franchise model – and these shows and expos are the ideal introduction to the region’s burgeoning franchising scene

Global franchising has always focused on the most lucrative and historical markets – mainly those of North America and Europe. While they have been the most prosperous regions in the world since franchising came into existence, it isn’t so clear-cut anymore. 

The rise of China and Southeast Asia has given business leaders a new region in the world to consider very seriously before planning any expansions. This is an ever-growing part of the world, whether it’s the economy or population. 

Australasia is a relatively sophisticated market too, and one well worth a brand setting a foothold in. The legal system and culture of the Australasia region makes it an attractive destination for brands born in the Anglosphere. 

For any franchisor looking to grow into this part of the world; or an interested entrepreneur who wants to investigate franchising and the best concept for their markets, a franchise show or expo is the ideal place to attend.  

Here are five of our must-attend shows in the Asia-Pacific region for 2022. 

Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo – Brisbane 

The Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo – Brisbane expo is Brisbane’s premier annual franchising event, with slightly more of a focus on professionals and entrepreneurs who are new to the market and world of franchising. 

This event attracts those who are inexperienced with franchising and gives them an opportunity to become acquainted with the models and brands available in a low-pressure environment. Attendees are encouraged to speak with franchisors and brands to get an understanding of their offerings, and can make use of free seminars, customized workshops and the opportunity to speak with the Franchise Council of Australia. 

This year’s edition offers a two-hour ‘Start Your Own Businesses’ workshop to ease people into the concept of franchising and provide a clear and executable path.

Japan International Franchise Show 

The Japan International Franchise Show is a window into one of the most incredible markets in the world. Into its 39th year, this show is a mainstay in the franchisor’s annual expo calendar. Investors, suppliers and over 200 franchise brands will descend on Tokyo in March to sell their concept to ambitious Japanese entrepreneurs. 

The expected 25,000 attendees can expect to find 400 booths on the show floor being occupied by the 200 plus brands exhibiting at the show. While there will be a diverse selection of brands present, the food and beverage, elderly care, and courier and delivery franchises will be found in every corner of the event hall. 

Franchisors are encouraged to attend this event, as it is the perfect opportunity to grow into the region and find a master developer or franchisee. There is a great variety of attendees, from franchise brands to individuals who want to open their own business.

International Franchise Expo Shanghai 

China represents the most exciting growth market in the world for almost any product or service imaginable. With a rising middle class and spirit of entrepreneurialism, international brands cannot neglect the International Franchise Expo Shanghai if they want to be a truly global franchise. 

2022 represents the very first edition of the International Franchise Expo Shanghai, meaning many brands finally have a clear road into the Chinese market, but conversely, Chinese brands now have an avenue to the rest of the world. This highlight event is a must-attend for any brand that wants to establish a toehold in the gargantuan Chinese economy. 

The importance of the event is not lost on global players. Over 50 international exhibitors have already confirmed their presence for the event, with many more likely to confirm in the coming months. The organizers have arranged for a ‘Franchise Matchmaking Salon’ for targeted networking; this will facilitate real deal-making at the event.

Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo – Sydney 

The Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo – Sydney represents one of Australia’s most practically useful events of the year. The event brings Sydney’s franchising professionals, brands and franchisees under one roof for two days of learning and deal-making. 

This event is never without a packed show floor and is full of interesting franchise concepts, manned by qualified and enthusiastic franchisors. This is one of the best events to simply learn about franchising, and is full of seminars such as ‘Franchising for the new decade’, ‘Five facts you absolutely need to know about buying a franchise’, and ‘Is franchising right for you?’. Attendees will leave the event with a bank of knowledge and knowing whether or not franchising is for them. 

Attendees and international brands are encouraged to make use of the presence of the Franchise Council of Australia, as they are experts and the final authority on franchising in Australia.

Vietnam International Retailtech & Franchise Show 

Vietnam is a burgeoning country, with a growing economy and population. It’s an exciting region in general, but Vietnam represents one of the strongest countries in the area. That’s why different organizers have got together to create the Vietnam International Retailtech & Franchise Show, the nation’s only franchising show. 

Since it’s the only franchising event on the Vietnamese calendar, it’s popular and has been well attended by a variety of stakeholders for the 13 years it has ran. In the 2022 edition of the show, over 12,000 attendees and 160 brands are expected to attend to present their brands and sign new deals. The unique retailtech pairing could make this an extraordinary event for a brand, as it may stumble upon an innovative retail tech solution at this event. 

The educational aspect of franchising shows has not been neglected in Vietnam. The event organizers have left considerable time and space for free franchise education seminars and e-commerce workshops. For any brand that wants to expand into this rising region, this is a must-attend event.
