Why Vets Work With Us

Military and industry veterans have been building success as Master Franchisees with Jani King

Commitment, leadership and the ability to execute a proven plan; those are the qualities that make for both great military personnel and civilian entrepreneurs. If you line-up with either of those roles, then owning a master franchise can be the key to opening the door to your future.

What exactly is a master franchise? Otherwise referred to as a territory license or territory development franchise, the Jani-King master franchise agreement provides a business owner with the exclusive rights to a designated territory, typically a metropolitan area, state or even entire country. Within your exclusive territory, you would then open an office, sell unit franchises, sell commercial customer contracts and provide ongoing support as your local unit franchisees grow their business by providing services to customers. Basically, from your professional office staffed with a team of sales, operations and administrative pros, you grow your business by supporting the growth of your franchisees businesses.

This is where your military leadership skills or business management abilities will produce a path toward success. In addition to your skills, and Jani-King’s support from our global headquarters, Jani-King’s network of current master franchises is also available to help. They are not only proof of the Jani-King program; they are a valuable ongoing resource for ideas, questions and overall business advice. Just consider the fact that approximately 43% of Jani-King master franchisees have invested in multiple territories and you’ll understand the enormous opportunity of the commercial cleaning and franchise industries.

Vested interest

Founded in 1969, Jani-King began selling franchises in 1974 and transformed the commercial cleaning industry. Through its owner-operator concept, Jani-King unit franchisees have a vested interest in the customers that they service, resulting in higher standards and better quality cleaning. It’s because of that type of commitment to quality, as well as full support from a local Jani-King office, that keep customers signing up to have their facilities serviced by Jani-King franchisees.

Today, Jani-King has more than 8,000 unit franchisees supported by 130 regional offices in 10 countries. Through that network, tens of thousands of customers receive regularly scheduled cleaning services. This means that revenue is being generated day after day, month after month, year after year. Many facilities such as airports and hotels receive cleaning services 365 days a year because of the nature of their business. Others prefer to have weekly or monthly cleaning schedules based on their business needs. The commercial cleaning industry is a $100 billion industry and it just keeps on growing.

Jani-King’s master franchisees have been on the front lines of franchising’s growth over the past several decades. In fact, Jani-King of Oregon Master Franchisee and former U.S. Marine Jeff Freeman has seen his company grow consistently throughout his 34 years with Jani-King.

“The Jani-King brand continues to be elite and, much like the USMC, both are the best at what they do,” said Freeman. “Jani-King helps prepare you on your new mission of entering the business world with a plan that is innovative and adapts to industry changes. Jani-King allows you to overcome obstacles through local and global support from fellow master franchisees and Jani-King’s corporate team. The opportunities that led me to invest in 1983 aren’t the same today…today is even better.”

Another long-time master franchisee and Navy veteran is Mike Kearns. Kearns started his career at Jani-King’s corporate headquarters where he helped others experience success. Before long, Kearns started building his empire and now owns rights to six booming Jani-King territories in four states.

“During my enlisted period in the mid-1970’s I served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman,” said Kearns. “As such, I worked in operating rooms of Naval Hospitals and, for a period of time, was attached to a Marine Corps field unit. I feel very fortunate to have served under many officers, including Navy nurses, Navy doctors and several Marine commanders all of whom demonstrated true examples of leadership and dedication in completing any challenge presented to our team; all the while looking out for the welfare of the team members. I have also been fortunate to have worked with many leading executives in Jani-King who have exhibited those same qualities. Applying those principles in the businesses that we operate has been the greatest reason for our success over the 31 years my wife and I have been associated with Jani-King.”

Master franchise

Victor Berrios is also a military veteran and Jani-King master franchisee who puts his leadership skills to work every day. Since purchasing the rights to the Nashville region in 2013, Berrios has more than doubled the annual revenue in the territory and also recently added Memphis to his portfolio. Berrios’ path to success includes serving in the U.S. Army, being a Jani-King customer, a Jani-King unit franchise owner and now a master franchise owner of two cities.

“The Jani-King system by design aligns itself with all the values and discipline veterans feel comfortable with. Training, support, clear objectives, and a can-do attitude are all traits that will serve veterans well in this industry,” said Berrios. “When I joined the U.S. Army I wanted to serve my country and help people in need no matter where in the world they lived. Today, I take great pleasure in continuing that mission, helping people by providing a venue which allows anyone to improve their lives by becoming a Jani-King Unit franchisee. Jani-King has a proven model that has stood the test of time which for an entrepreneur is a key component and a solid indicator of a successful system. Purchasing the rights for two Jani-King master franchises was not only the right thing to do for me and my family but it is the absolute best environment and best people in the industry to do it with.”

Although Berrios started as a unit franchise owner, owning a Jani-King master franchise doesn’t require experience cleaning buildings. Jani-King’s program has been put into place by business executives across the globe. It’s about running an office, building a team of sales and operations pros, understanding the needs of your franchisees and providing support that helps them grow their business.

It’s time you put your experience and leadership skills to work for you. Commit to your future today and build your success story as Jani-King’s next master franchise owner.
