Gravity granted permission to add e-karting track to Yorkshire location

The international leisure and entertainment franchise plans to significantly expand its first ever location

Gravity Active Entertainment has announced that it has received permission to build out a £2m e-karting experience at its Xscape Yorkshire location. The new expansion will add 24,000 sq. ft to the venue.

The Xscape Yorkshire site is Gravity’s first in the U.K., and opened in 2015 as a trampoline park. Since opening, the location has had numerous additions: Free Fall, an invigorating free-falling experience; the Leap of Faith and Gravity Rocks, a climbing wall for both children and adults. A Japanese theme will be employed to create an immersive experience, and marks Gravity’s second GT e-karting track following the opening of the Wandsworth location.

“Xscape Yorkshire has always been a special location for us, and we are delighted to be launching our unique e-karting offering here in our home site,” said Harvey Jenkinson, co-founder and CEO at Gravity.

“We aim to be at the forefront of leisure offerings in the UK and can’t wait to introduce more people to Gravity GT e-karting. We are at a pivotal moment in our development and are excited to see what the future has in store.”

The multi-layered track itself is designed by racing experts, and is perfect for high-power e-karts. Most importantly, the safety element has not been missed out. The e-karts can be instantly deactivated remotely to prevent accidents. The expanded site will also offer new F&B concepts, karaoke, immersive smart rooms and its own electric gamebox.

This is a part of a new stage of growth for the company, as it plans to exceed 1 million sq. Ft occupied within the next two years. In 2021, the leisure and entertainment brand appointed Vanessa Hall as its new Chair of the Board, and KPMG as its adviser to guide the brand throughout fundraising efforts.

“To meet the growing demand for one-of-a-kind leisure experiences and the popularity of competitive socializing, we’re constantly looking at how we can bring new concepts to our destinations,” said Pablo Sueiras, head of retail channels at Landsec

“As we’ve seen from Gravity’s success at Southside, guests increasingly want to be able to try a variety of different activities all in one place, so GT e-karting will be a great new addition for Xscape Yorkshire.”
