For over 35 years, DC Strategy has provided consulting and advisory services to SMEs, family businesses, corporations, listed companies, and governments seeking to use franchising or licensing as a management and marketing strategy.

Following the organization’s win of the Best Franchise Consultancy at the Global Franchise Awards 2020, Global Franchise spoke to James Young, head of franchise sales and development, about the road to success.

GF: What do you believe led DC Strategy to win this award?

JY: DC Strategy has always been a client-led business that puts client needs first. It’s always about the client; not us. We have also ensured we only partner with quality people and businesses, and this has ensured our continued success over 35 years.

We are also a family business, which has been lucky enough to attract high-quality employees who have shared values, and are driven to help our clients succeed.

GF: What does winning this award mean to you?

JY: It’s a great recognition of the hard work of our team, and allows us to be recognized on a global scale. We have long been Australia’s leading firm and this will hopefully allow us to work with great people and brands from new markets.

We are excited to connect with new quality European clients. The opportunities to assist Indian and South American businesses in coming to Australia is also very exciting for us.

GF: How international is DC Strategy’s portfolio?

JY: Currently, we are assisting U.S. businesses entering Australia, as well as South East Asian and New Zealand markets. About 35-40 per cent of our business is international. Our employees have global experience, and we have experts from South Africa, Singapore, Turkey, Ireland, and the U.K. working in our team. We’re excited to grow this further.

DC Strategy has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, and Hong Kong, but our clients seek us out from across the globe as we have a multi-lingual, multi-national team doing business in Europe, the Americas, China, India, Africa, and Australasia.

GF: What is the most rewarding aspect of your work?

JY: For each of our team members, it has been the satisfaction of working with clients to achieve their personal as well as business goals. Developing their networks and brand on a national and global scale, and seeing this manifested in multiple locations across the world, is a very exciting and emotionally rewarding journey for all involved.

GF: What sets DC Strategy apart from other consultancies in the industry?

JY: Many will claim to be the best franchise experts and offer franchise consulting services, but what sorts the men and women from the boys and girls is track record and results.

Over the past 20 years, we have seen our clients crystallize billions of dollars in enterprise value, which we see as the ultimate test of the caliber of the client and its franchise advisors.
