Former Gold’s Gym executive acquires 24 company-owned locations in franchise agreement

A veteran of the Gold’s Gym family has risen to now operate as a multi-unit franchisee.

Gold’s Gym recently announced that Matt Clifford, the former senior vice president of eastern U.S. operations for the fitness franchise brand, has purchased the rights to 24 company-owned gyms throughout the D.C. area.

The acquisition was made in partnership with fellow Gold’s Gym veterans, Brenda Jorgensen and Josh Fuglsby, who collectively manage CFJ Holdings.

Clifford’s journey with Gold’s Gym began back in 2001, when he was a front desk team member in Van Ness, D.C. He continuously rose through the ranks and in his most recent position, Clifford oversaw the operations of around 70 company-owned gyms east of Texas. Jorgensen previously served as director of human resources for Gold’s Gym across the Eastern U.S., while Fuglsby has a 20-year history with the brand which includes his tenure as regional vice president.

“The fact that the gym I once served as a front desk team member is now one of 24 Gold’s Gym locations we own and operate is a testament to the incredible opportunities we have access to as part of the Gold’s Gym family,” said Matt Clifford. “My partners and I see tremendous potential to enhance the Gold’s Gym experience in the D.C. market. We are excited to strengthen the ties between the Gold’s Gym brand and the communities we serve across the greater D.C. area.”

Clifford will serve as CFJ Holdings’ president and CEO, while Jorgensen will be the chief experience officer. Fuglsby will serve as the group’s COO.

“This strategic acquisition in the D.C. area further strengthens our position as a leading franchisor of full-service, full-amenity gyms across the globe,” said Gold’s Gym president and CEO, Adam Zeitsiff. “Matt’s knowledge of the area plus the combined 45 years of Gold’s Gym leadership experience he and his partners bring to the network make them the perfect fits for their new franchising roles. We look forward to helping them take advantage of the foundation the brand has already established in the market and are excited for Matt and his partners to join our growing franchise network.”
