KFC closes all U.K. locations

Following precautionary measures in all of its locations – both corporate-owned and franchised – KFC has now closed all restaurants

Following precautionary measures in all of its locations – both corporate-owned and franchised – KFC has now closed its restaurants until further notice.

KFC, as well as several other frontrunners in the food and beverage franchise space, has now closed all of its U.K. locations as a measure to prevent the risk of coronavirus spreading to either guests or staff.

In an update, the chicken brand said: “We’ve decided, together with our franchise partners, to begin closing our restaurants to help protect the wellbeing and safety of our teams and of our guests.

“We’re committed to doing this in the right way and are focussed on closing responsibly – to prepare our restaurant teams, help our suppliers and minimise food waste. All our restaurants will begin closing from the end of this evening (23rd March) until further notice.

“It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly, but it’s in the best interests of both our incredible teams and all the fans that love our chicken.”

This decision follows rules put in place last week, when KFC reduced its restaurant offering to drive-thru, takeaway, or home delivery only. Contactless payment methods were also prioritized, and guests were asked to not enter restaurants if they felt unwell.
