The transferable skills of performing arts

Stagecoach Performing Arts provides children not only with the enjoyment of drama, but essential soft skills that will stand them in good stead throughout their careers

Content Partnership*

Taking part in performing arts activities offers engagement and a personal connection unlike any other discipline. Drama presents itself as the most realistic form of learning and development through external stimuli. It can often be through hard-hitting stories that are based on reallife events, or simply a theme explored that children are able to resonate with. Collaborating in a space where they can interpret information about the wider world gives children of all ages a better understanding of who they are and how they work with others to achieve a collective goal as a community.

Bringing together communities by giving children the chance to grow and explore their imaginations is at the heart of what we do. We give performers all over the world opportunities to explore their own skills and pick up leadership abilities at the same time.

As a business model, Stagecoach Performing Arts goes beyond the benefits of helping children develop.

Our exciting international franchise and teaching opportunities are rich with various prospects for passionate people from all backgrounds across the globe.

Hear from our franchisees

Alison Tasker, Stagecoach Performing Arts, Perth

Alison’s daughter started attending Stagecoach sessions at Tonbridge, U.K. when she was four. When Alison’s family moved to Australia in 2013, she immediately enrolled her daughter in the Joondalup Stagecoach school – feeling incredibly fortunate that she was able to continue her Stagecoach journey with the only franchisee in Australia.

“When we arrived here, I realized what a fantastic investment opportunity Stagecoach was. I’d always been attracted by the idea of working for myself, and Stagecoach just seemed to be the perfect mix of familiarity, through my daughter’s involvement – 12 years as a student and two years as an early stages assistant – and my own personal love of theatre and the arts. Buying into a franchise offered the right amount of handholding and has allowed me to grow in confidence whilst having a supportive team behind me if I ever came up against a problem.”

Just four years on from investing in her first Stagecoach franchise, Alison now runs three successful Stagecoach Performing Arts schools. Living in Perth with her family, she has given herself not only fulfilment, but much needed freedom.

“The best thing about being a franchisee is the sense of achievement I feel when a term has gone well, and my students are happy. I love the freedom that being a franchisee brings, but equally, it’s great to know that I have multiple people in the network who I can turn to if I’m ever in doubt – it really does feel like the best of both worlds.”

Mark Heslop, Stagecoach Performing Arts, Leeds Morley and Stagecoach Performing Arts, Mirfield

After two decades in the same career, Mark began to feel stagnated and realized the time had come for something new.

“My two girls, Katie and Phoebe, have both been students at Stagecoach since they were four. Although I was familiar with the brand, I’d never realised it was a franchise – I just hadn’t made that connection. It wasn’t until I’d looked into it more that I’d discovered a viable business opportunity right under my nose.

“It didn’t necessarily matter that I had no experience of running a performing arts school. My corporate background and six years as a Stagecoach parent made for a great combination.”

Mark’s first five years have been filled with enjoyment and inevitable challenges due to the pandemic. But despite all the troubles of the last two years, Mark is enthralled to be now expanding his remit as a Stagecoach franchisee, having recently bought an adjacent territory to his existing one – Mirfield.

“The last two years with COVID-19 have shown me what an incredible business this is to be a part of. Obviously being face-to-face and feeling that human connection is a big part of what we do at Stagecoach, so for this to be stripped away from us was initially difficult.

“We and the families found ways to ensure the kids stayed engaged, felt enjoyment but importantly still able to express themselves at a time when a lot of our expression was diminished. I’d say we are a lot closer as a community after COVID-19, and our customer base is much stronger considering everything we’ve gone through together.”
