Canada’s Spray-Net launches U.S. expansion initiative

The Spray-Net Story

While studying finance and marketing at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Carmelo Marsala planned to be a stockbroker. But it was his summer occupation, running a College Pro Painters franchise, which ended up turning him into an entrepreneur.

“I wasn’t always satisfied in what we were able to deliver,” he said. “In my third year, I had less revenue than in my first two years because I was refusing jobs that required painting aluminum, vinyl, PVC surfaces because the finish wasn’t right and it would cause the surface to warp.”

Marsala wasn’t able to find a readily-available product to paint non-wood surfaces on site with the factory finish he wanted to achieve. His problem was solved when one of his professors, who invited him to be a guest speaker for an entrepreneurship class, connected him to a friend who is a paint chemist.

Together, Marsala and the chemist worked on bridging the gap between conventional painting – taking a brush or roller and repainting every couple of years – and factory painting. They succeeded and created several paint formulas, one for every surface that could be painted.

Spray-Net was incorporated in March 2010.

Continued Canadian Growth and U.S. Expansion

Today, Spray-Net has anchored itself as one of Canada’s fastest-growing home-improvement and remodeling franchises. With 45 operating territories in nine of Canada’s 10 Provinces, the Montreal-based company is now turning its attention to the U.S. for its next wave of expansion.

Centrally-operated call center

Another key to Spray-Net’s success is its exclusive centrally-operated call center, which answers calls and schedules appointments for all of the company’s franchisees. In addition to this call center, Spray-Net also provides in-house marketing for all of their franchise partners. This allows franchisees to provide top-tier services by solely concentrating on the operations of their business.

To augment the company’s U.S. expansion, Marsala is looking for franchise partners who are much like himself, motivated and driven. Including a franchise fee of $50,000, the investment for a Spray-Net franchise ranges between $148,250 and $244,850 for one territory.
