Chem-Dry Cleans Up

With 3,500 units in 51 countries and a time-proven proprietory process. Chem-Dry is a stand-out investment

The largest franchise business in the industry, Chem-Dry Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning is the industry leader and is actively growing its footprint around the world. With a network of 3,500 units in 51 countries serving 10,000 homes and businesses a day worldwide, Chem-Dry continues to benefit from recent growth in spending in the home improvement sector, which is expected to rise again in 2017. The brand is on track to close 2016 with 130 new units, marking the fourth consecutive year in which it has sold more than 100 franchises in North America.

Through the backing of its parent company, Harris Research Inc, Chem-Dry constantly innovates and updates its revolutionary products and processes as part of its mission to help people keep their homes and businesses clean and healthy. Chem-Dry provides carpet and upholstery cleaning services using a proprietary green-certified solution and a Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) cleaning process that provide a deeper, longer lasting clean. The cleaning process uses 80 per cent less water than typical steam cleaning, allowing surfaces to dry in hours rather than days and leaving homes healthier as a result. Chem-Dry’s primary cleaning solution, The Natural®, doesn’t contain any soaps or detergents, making it safe and non-toxic for kids and pets. In testing by an independent laboratory, the Chem-Dry HCE cleaning process was found to remove an average of 98 percent of common household allergens from carpets and upholstery and, when a sanitizer was added, it removed an average of 89 per cent of airborne bacteria, improving indoor air quality. The allergens tested were dust mite allergen and dog and cat dander, and the figures are an average across multiple homes.

“Even across the many different countries and cultures we serve in our global network, the need to help people maintain a clean, healthy living or work environment is universal. There’s high demand for Chem-Dry’s HCE carpet and upholstery cleaning process in every corner of the United States and around the world because it not only delivers superior results, but it’s safer, healthier and better for the environment,” noted Dan Tarantin, the Chief Executive Officer of HRI brands. “These common consumer needs and trends and the strength and versatility of our business model have been the driving forces behind the substantial growth Chem-Dry has seen in our franchise sales and our global footprint.”

Since its founding in 1977, the Chem-Dry brand has experienced growth and innovation that has propelled it to be a leader in its vertical and in the franchise industry. Despite competing in a fragmented industry comprised mostly of independent operators, Chem-Dry has stood tall as the market share leader in carpet and upholstery cleaning. Chem-Dry franchise owners come from a wide variety of backgrounds, ranging from other home service professionals to executives and entrepreneurs.

Many franchisees also own their Chem-Dry businesses as part of a portfolio, where carpet cleaning serves as a complement to their other operations. One such franchisee is Jonathan Towell, the owner and manager of hundreds of rental properties in the Lubbock, Texas area. After years of paying outside services to clean the carpeting and upholstery as tenants moved in and out of his properties, Towell purchased several Chem-Dry licenses to cut down his operating costs and expand into another growing market. In addition to tapping into the right consumer trends, company executives attribute the consistent growth and success of its franchisees to a scalable business model that can grow as large as an entrepreneur wants and to its expanded service offering beyond carpet and upholstery cleaning – Chem-Dry franchisees can now offer tile, stone and grout cleaning, leather cleaning and reconditioning, and granite and marble countertop renewal.

As Chem-Dry continues to innovate with its industry-leading products and process and expand its network, the brand is targeting multiple domestic and international territories. Opportunities are available in markets nationwide, including Miami, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Boston, New York, Houston and Chicago. There are also international franchise opportunities for master agreements in Israel, Oman, Lebanon, Panama, Colombia, Poland, and Pakistan. As they continue to deliver outstanding results and a superior customer experience around the world, Chem-Dry franchisees are growing successful businesses and helping the company achieve healthy growth around the globe.
