After settling into the new year—fresh off of making a whole list of resolutions—it’s easy to fall back on old habits and the same daily grind. Job satisfaction often dictates so much of a person’s happiness, yet oftentimes it’s the hardest place to make changes. But what is the motivator to find a new career path, to jump start a new vision for one’s life?

There are a number of reasons people look to franchising as a way out of the work blues. Work challenges can include not feeling appreciated, having no room for advancement, or not getting along with a boss or co-workers. However, the main reason people often look into franchising is to take control of their own destiny and financial success.

That’s when a lot of prospects reach out to us at Dwyer Group, one of the world’s largest franchising companies of service brands focused on repairing, maintaining and enhancing properties. Franchising is the gateway from having a job to growing a business. Franchises offer the independence of small business ownership supported by the benefits of a big business network. So while you are in business for yourself, you are not by yourself. Franchise companies have staff dedicated to providing ongoing assistance to franchisees – offering everything from operational support to marketing.

Now that isn’t to say franchising is easy. Being the owner/operator of a franchise still requires a lot of hard work. But it also presents a chance to be the boss on a much-needed journey to work-life balance that so many people desire.

I believe that people are happiest when they have a passion for what they do. Don’t just think about a new job. Think about following your passion. Do what you love, and you will love what you do. I hope as people evaluate their career they get to the heart of what they want in life. The important thing is to define your values and live and lead with those values, and the rest of 2018 may exceed expectations.
